Photos and narrative courtesy of Bob Ferguson! And thanks to the field trip leader Linda!
We left McDonalds after trying the Apple Pie with coffee for breakfast. On the way to the Planet Mine, Linda showed us one of the wash’s up close, not someplace to be caught in a down pour. We then stopped below Planet Ranch Mine where samples were obtained by all with Bob scampering up the hill.
Linda then led us to another site just east of the Planet Ranch gate which had a lot of hematite with chrysocolla and malachite in it. From there we drove to a wash west of the Planet Ranch mine, where the Ferguson’s newest yard rock was acquired, after which all us hungry hounds had lunch.
After lunch Linda led us to the Historic Preservation Site of Swansea where we took in the sites before returning to civilization, or at least paved roads!
