Last Field Trip This Spring, Saturday, May 3rd

I forgot to mention this last night at the dinner.

Our last field trip this spring will be Saturday May 3rd for Mohave Jasper. Linda Chandler will be leading the trip and we are to meet at Route 66 and Boundary Cone @ 9 AM.

Tonight is our regular scheduled business meeting and year end pot luck! Board of Director's meet at 5:45 and the regular meeting (it WILL be brief) starts at 6 PM at our regular meeting place, First Southern Baptist Church at 1421 Commercial Street, Mohave Valley. There will be an exciting auction! I expect about 50 members and guest to be there! Come join us and have a fantastic time.

Field Trip Saturday April 19

Plamosa Road - between Parker and Quartzsite
Saturday April 19, 2008

We will be looking for chrysocolla and barite at
two sites off of Plamosa Rd. Meet at 8:00 a.m. in
the U.S. Post Office’s parking lot at 1500 S.
California Ave. (next to the Circle K) in Parker. It
is located on your right as you are leaving town
traveling towards Quartzsite. Call Bob Ferguson

Report of the Ludlow Trip!

Friday there were 8 people, 5 cars and 1 dog. We started off on the south side of the freeway at Hector Road and discovered a new spot on the north side of the freeway, after finding our way across the railroad tracks.

Saturday started with 17 people, 10 vehicles and 4 dogs. We collected copper minerals from an area south of Ludlow, potential gem quality material and great yard rocks!!! From that location we went to the Thulite (Ruby Zoisite) location south of the freeway. After returning, we collected some butterscotch colored jasper northwest of the campsite and some jasper with green color in it. By the end of the day we were down to 4 people 3 cars and 1 dog who were going to spend the night.

One of our members had a flat, which is a good opportunity to remind everyone to make sure those spares are properly inflated (as this one was) or they may be of little value.

Sunday the remaining group headed off in different directions after packing to go home.

Ludlow Trip

This isn't really official but I did talk to Montie (field trip leader) night before last. He said he was going to Ludlow today (Thursday the 10th) to check the roads and post signs from Ludlow to the camp site. Don't quote me, but I think he said it was on the side road to the north side of Ludlow and then you travel south for about a mile to the gravel pits. I'm quite sure it will be EASY to find. Anyway he will be at the Dairy Queen each morning at 9 AM. If you have any questions, call me or Bob Ferguson. Will see ya all out there!
