December 15 2007 Saturday

December 15, 2007 11 vehicles, five canines, ten guests and 13 NGMC members met at I-40 West and 95 to adventure the Crestview Wash under direction of the Reeds and their sidekick "Otis T Walking Duck". When Allan showed us samplings of what we could expect to find he also narrated the sable of Otis T Walking Duck and the Petroglyphs. Here is how I envisioned Otis T Walking Duck...now the rest of you are wondering "What the heck?" All I can say is ya needed to be there!

We had a fantastic day; wonderful people, great weather, awesome dogs and great specimens to collect! To view 63 pictures, click here http://picasaweb.google.com/wyoaqha/RockTripsDec15

Thursday

Just so you ALL know!

This Saturday, December 15, our field trip is to Crestview Wash, being led by Allan and Faith Reed. We'll depart at 9 AM, Pacific time at Interstate 40 (west of Needles) and 95 north (to Las Vegas). I believe we are gathering on the south side of the Interstate. This should be a FUN trip. Of course there is some jaspers out there, barite and I have found some amethyst there also. Four-Wheel drive is required - deep sand going on out there!

Then Wednesday the 19th at 5PM (Pacific Time) is our annual Christmas party and "short " business meeting. There will be a huge spiral ham furnished by our Club and all the great food brought by members to go with this.

Linda Chandler will conduct the Chinese Auction! Can't wait to see all the fun items our members bring!

There will be other auctions and plenty of fun and lots of food!

Then moving forward into 2008 the weekend of January 18-20, we are planning an exploratory trip to Ludlow, led by Montie (who knows that area inside out). Come out for one day or all three days! Believe me, I'm going for all three days! Details will be in the newsletter and on this Blog.

On February 22, is the long awaited Bagdad Mine tour. We will depart Wikieup at the store/restaurant/motel (east side of Hwy 93) at 10 AM, Arizona time. Then on to the mine at 11 AM. Folks, don't miss this one.

March brings the Burro Creek three day trip. This will be led by Linda Chandler and Buck Wilburn. Stay tuned for updates!

Nominating Committee for year 2008: Expect a phone call or email from the nominating committee. They are looking for folks to fill all officer positions. This includes but is not limited to President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Isn’t it time to step up and help run our rock club? Think of all the life skills you have that can help our club.

The Regular Business Meeting was held October 17, 2007 at Fiesta Mexicana restaurant. Of course the food and service was wonderful! It was great to see many old friends after our four month dark period. What you missed: Groan - - - another change to the Bylaws. You should already have your copy via email or USPS. These will be amended at the next business meeting in November. The President appointed Gisela and Pat New and Paula Auckley to the Nominating Committee. Last I heard, they have the slate of proposed officers to present to the Club at the November meeting.
Corinne announced she will serve as Field Trip Chairman and will be talking to members each month to lead field trips. I think there are some great places planned by some awesome new Field Trip ‘Leaders’!
October 20, 2007 - Hunting Chalcedony at the Turtle Mountains with leader Barb Ballard was a huge success. 9 vehicles, NGMC members 13 and 5 visitors and 3 canines enjoyed this trip. We met at the Kiosk about 9 AM and traveled west to the Chalcedony area. When we all arrived, every rock hound went in different directions and all came back happy with their bounty! Overall a VERY successful day! Thanks Barb for the Great Trip!
